Newly-Crowned Mr Zimbabwe bodybuilding champion Chenai Mambwere is in South Africa where he will take part in the Dis-Chem Exergise Bodybuilding Contest in Cape Town this evening.
The competition in South Africa marks the first time that Mambwere competes in an international event since winning the Mr Zimbabwe crown three weeks ago. Mambwere is competing in his second contest in South Africa this year after having been in the same city in June where he came an overall second in the Mr Novice and welterweight sections.
In June again, Mambwere was in Botswana where he won the Mr Botswana title and was again invited to Cape Town. “I am hoping to do well in South Africa because I have been exposed to the competition there before,” he said before his departure.
Mambwere is expected to enter in the men’s Under-80kg category for the event set for the Nasrec Hall.

Natural Mr. Universe Bodybuilding Championships in New York City, Tiger made the decision to work at improving the sport of natural bodybuilding and fitness …
Following a four–year hiatus from competing, top bodybuilder Tiger Wilson is busy preparing to make a comeback to competition.
After winning the 2003 WNBF Pro. Natural Mr. Universe Bodybuilding Championships in New York City, Tiger made the decision to work at improving the sport of natural bodybuilding and fitness in the Cayman islands by helping other athletes to reach their personal goals, give them international exposure and the option of having the freedom to compete anywhere in the world where International Natural Bodybuilding Federation (INBF) and World Natural Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF) events are held. Because of Tiger’s efforts, local athletes have received worldwide exposure in various magazines and on websites.
In 2004 Tiger made a further decision to stop training and competing and, together with his wife, Susan, formed the Cayman island Natural Bodybuilding Association (CINBA) so that they could better assist the local athletes. Tiger has spent most of his spare time during the last four years teaching athletes the “tricks and trades” of the sport and so far CINBA has earned respect and recognition on the natural bodybuilding circuit, both locally and internationally. Within the WNBF and INBF the Cayman islands team currently ranks as #2 and they are working hard toward being ranked #1.
Tiger and Susan made another step towards strengthening the sport by receiving the sanction to promote and host international bodybuilding championships here in the Cayman islands. These championships attract many natural bodybuilders and tourists from around the world and give the island’s athletes another great goal to work towards. Tiger is grateful for all the sponsors who have assisted him to make these championships a success over the past 5 years.
The next international championships that will be hosted in Cayman take place on April 19, 2008. They say it is projected to be bigger and better than any before.
Over the past four years Tiger has been repeatedly questioned as to whether he was now officially retired from competition and his response has always been: “I’m not done yet!” Indeed, those who had begun to think that he was in fact done were wrong as he will be stepping on stage once again at the WNBF Natural World Bodybuilding Championships in New York City on Saturday, November 10, 2007.
Tiger tells us that he has been hard at work for the past three months, working to achieve his goal of winning another title. He trains at home in his private gym which his family calls “The Tiger’s Den”. He stated that although three months is a very short period over which to prepare for this type of top class championship, he feels that with his vast knowledge and many years of experience he knows what to do to achieve his goals. He said that he feels that “experience is the key to all success in life”.
“My game plan is very simple” said Tiger. “My first goal is to reach the finals and then it will be no surrender, no retreat.”
Tiger Wilson is the Cayman islands’ first Professional Natural Bodybuilder and he has been involved in the sport for over 20 years. A few of the many titles that he has archived over the years include:
Overall Winner – 2003 WNBF Pro Natural Universe
Overall Winner – 2002 INBF Naturalmania Nationals
1st Place – INBF Natural Atlantic Coast Classic
Gold and Silver medals at the World Police & Fire Games
Overall winner – Mr. Universal Physique
Overall winner – Mr. Powerline Physique
Overall winner – Mr. Cayman
5x Mr. Jamaica Middleweight
2x Overall winner – Mr. Jamaica
2nd place – Caribbean & Central American Championships
Tiger thanked the C.I. Olympic Committee for their partial sponsorship to enable him to compete at the World Championships.

Those bodybuilding fans who would have been looking forward to the hosting of the 207 National Physique Bodybuilding Show would be left disappointed as the Antigua and Barbuda Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Federation (ABBWF) has decided to call off the annual event.
This is according President of the ABBWF, Errol Williams, who told the Antigua Sun that they were forced to call off the show due to a lack of competitors.
“Its basically due to a lack of competitors for the show – most of the bodybuilders are saying that they want to concentrate on next year’s national show so they have opted to stay out of the Physique show so we decided to call it off for this year,” he said.
The Physique Show is normally one which offers more of a relaxed atmosphere for both bodybuilders and spectators alike where the athletes are allowed to let their hair down a bit while it is also an opportunity for young and upcoming bodybuilders to showcase their attributes.
“The executive will have to sit down and take a look at the show to see what we can do about the time of year because we have had this problem in the past where a number of bodybuilders have pulled out because they were concentrating on the nationals which is normally in June. We have an idea as to what they (the athletes) want so we will be doing something about that pretty soon,” Williams told the SUN.
The competition was slated to take place this month and would have brought some of the country’s top athletes to the stage to include defending Nationals and Physique champion, Ollyn Martin, form champ, Dave Peters, the young and upcoming Itano Batchelor and lots others. Martin also captured the Nationals held earlier this year.

PETALING JAYA: Bodybuilder Sazali Samad made history by winning his fourth Mr Universe title in the 61st World Amateur Championships in Jeju island, South Korea on Sunday night.
Sazali capped a move to the below 70kg lightweight category title by coming out tops in a field of six finalists.
He had made it to the top six in pre-judging on Saturday, which saw the rest of the field of 14 participants eliminated.
Germany’s Patrick Ostolani took the silver while Richard Riedl of Slovakia, the runners-up last year, settled for bronze this time.
Sazali’s previous three world titles were won in the below 65kg bantamweight category and his latest achievement has ensured his place in history as the most successful bodybuilder the country has produced.
Sazali took his first title when Malaysia hosted the championships in 2000 and he repeated the feat in Moscow in 2004.
He was the silver medallist in the 2005 edition in Shanghai but bounced back to win his third title in Ostrava, Czech Republic last year.

Youth Fitness Programme a Prime Sumner Focus

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

The new term of office for Bahamas Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation President Danny Sumner will see him focus on placing the sport…
Sumner confirmed as much with the Bahamas Journal on Monday when he announced the executive slate to assist him for the next four years. The BBFF First Congress was held this past Saturday at Customs Headquarters and elected to assist Sumner with the administrative chores of the organization were: Vice President Dereck Bullard, Secretary General Simone Sawyer, Treasurer Pat Smith, Executive Director Paul Whyly and Public Relations/Marketing Director Chevy Roker.
Also, Arthur Eldon was returned as the president of Abaco, Omar Daley now heads Long island and Clifford Seymour was elected Athletes Representative for New Providence.
Sumner, who has been associated with the sport for more than 20 years, now can continue his platform.
“The schools are a major goal of mine. We started the move into the schools during the last term and the objective during these four years is to complete that programme. It is important for the youth to understand the value of being physically fit and healthy. From an early age, parents and guardians allow our children to take good health for granted. We want to show them just how they can make sure of their conditioning and health.
“In fact, we see physical conditioning and education as a team. They go together,” said Sumner.
The initial item on the agenda for Sumner and his colleagues however is the First BBFF Awards Banquet, scheduled for November 29 at Workers House on Tonique Williams-Darling Highway.
“It might seem a bit of a rush but it’s not quite that way. We have been planning this event for some time now but just wanted to wait for the elections to officially make the announcement. All the details are just about in place and we will have this opportunity to pay tribute to the top bodybuilders and fitness personnel in the country as well as those who have made quality contribution to the sport,” informed Sumner.
There is the possibility also that the BBF will be officially asked by regional directors to host the 2008 Central American and Caribbean Body Building/Fitness championships.
“It is my understanding that Guatemala which was scheduled to host the CAC next year has not risen to the standards required. The World Congress makes the decision. Puerto Rico was the alternative but again, the word is that they are not up to it also. Subsequently, I received a telephone call from Javier Polack who is the head CAC representative of the International bodybuilding/fitness Federation. He told me that the next option is The Bahamas. He and I spoke positively about that but first we will have to wait to receive the official communication. Then, we must talk with our Government through the Ministry of Sports to see if that is something we can look at financially at this time.
“So, nothing is set. But, if we can pull that off, it would indeed be big for Bodybuilding and fitness here in the country and for sports in general,” said Sumner.
The BBFF chief is one of the leading regional personalities in the sport. Presently he also heads the Antilles Region of Bodybuilding/Fitness Nations. The countries in that group other than The Bahamas are Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Mexico, the Cayman islands, Bermuda, the Dominican Republic, Turks and Caicos islands and Cuba.
